I've always been a reader, a documenter (is that a word?), and an organizer... which is the reason my Books tab exists. That, my friends, is my idea of a good time. (Nerd alert!)
This year... or, well, next year... starting in 4 days, I'm taking it to the next level!
May I introduce to you, Modern Readers Online Book Club. The nerdiest of nerdy (but amazingly chic and cool at the same time) way to educate yourself when you're too old for school and have little kids that keep you from socializing and/or looking appropriately put together enough to socialize.
(You can still join even if you don't have those problems. But I might hate you a little bit.)
The idea is, you can chose your reading speed (two books a month for Speedy Readers, one book a month for Steady readers) and obtain the book however you'd like (on your nook or kindle, at the library, at the store, your call!). When the reading session is up, you can attend our e-meeting via Skype - which is just a chat - don't worry - I promised that you don't have to be appropriately put together, remember? When I first heard of Skype I was all scared that my web cam would actually, ya know, get used - and I'd have to deal with looking like an amazon woman with baby puke in my hair. Never fear!
Everything is organized on our simple-to-follow blog over at http://modernreaders.blogspot.com - you'll find all kinds of information on how the club works, and as 2012 progresses - that's where you'll find posts about our books, our chats, etc etc. You can also follow us on FB, where our posts will automatically feed, making it easier to see what's going on.
Oh, and one more thing - I'm looking for a few people to help me run this fabulously flexible club, so if you're interested in getting involved, check it out and let me know!
If you'd like to join our sweet little nerd club, check out the Our Readers tab on the MRBC blog and follow the simple instructions to sign up! We plan to start on January 1st, so make sure you get your say before things get underway!
